Volunteers are always welcome. The main activities for volunteers are the work parties to maintain the Flower Bank.

The work parties carry out two main activities:

Verge cutting

Verge cutting is a major activity to cut back the grass and remove the arisings to encourage wildflower growth. The verge is cut once or twice a year in sections with the largest cut in the autumn. You can volunteer to help with raking and clearing the cut grass and flowers. Sessions are 1-2 hours. There are mowing, strimming and traffic management tasks which can be carried out by suitably trained individuals.

Tree trimming and invasive species removal

Some species, for example bramble or garden escapes need to be removed or trimmed back during the growing seasons. Work parties go out to the Flower Bank to remove these. Sessions typically last 1-2 hours.
